Tantrums...

I need advice.

Nothing can be worse than the words, "No Mommy! No!!" Except for...

-Throwing Food
-Kicking
-Hitting
-Fake Crying
-Dumping Out Crackers

I think that about sums it up. I know it is all about finding your independence. Just don't tell me it gets worse.

I just feel bad that I get so happy when I look back and see this...

Take her food away the moment she starts to throw it. You can slap her hand if you want, obviously not hard enough to do damage, but enough to know that she's in trouble, or start putting her in time out. She's old enough for time outs. If she won't stay sitting on the chair or whatever for time outs, then put her in the corner in the wall and stand with her, making her stay. She'll start to get the drift.
Kids are hard, aren't they? ;) Good luck!

The tough part is not letting them see that they are getting to you and not giving in to their demands. This is especially hard in public so be ready to swallow your pride. No one wants to be the parent of the "tantrum kid." You are already so kind and patient, your biggest battle will be not giving in. But don't worry, just when you get the first one figured out, the second one will be totally different! Good luck!!!

What a cutie, you are asking for advice! :) I love to give advice!

When we had our first kids, we had a tantrum with them. When our second batch came along, we were still so busy trying to get it right with the first batch that tantrums were the least of our worries! (There, I told you, it could get worse, sorry.)

Now that I am a grandmother and have our little two year old here from time to time, we see a couple of tantrums. If I have to deal with one of her tantrums, I just pick her up and tell her that when she is pleasant she can do or have what ever it is that is causing the fit.

She was screaming for my iphone, when I set her in the living room to cool down, I did it kindly, gently and lovingly. Very soon after that she was at my side asking for my iphone. I was syncing it and had to say no. She took it well. Now she charms me with a smile and a please and who can resist that? When I have said no, she takes it in stride. But then I am her grandmother and can give her my full attention and she gets almost everything she wants when she is here.

I hope this helps. It is hard not to get emotional when they do that, but try not to. We all love a sleeping child.

I am a big fan of timeouts in bed with the lights on and doors open so they know its not sleeping time. For their age, they can't escape and I don't go in until they calm down (they usually get pretty annoyed).

Tantrums at home, I usually just walk out of the room and let them be. In public, they get buckled into cart/stroller to scream to their hearts content.

So far, so good. It is definitely improving things at my house!

Oh, just remember, they grow out of it! It won't last forever!

It will def get worse, but they do (mostly) get over them. Eli's tantrums are rare now and they were horrific. The advice on standing your ground is good--and really hard in Albertsons when everyone around you is considering calling CPS. Haha. Seriously though, they do pull through it. So, just try to be firm and survive. She has adorable curly hair though. Doesn't that help!?

Just take comfort in knowing your not alone :). But brace yourself, three is proving to be much more troublesome than two.

Oye. Do I sound mean for saying slap her hand??? I don't mean beat her! I realize my comment is the only one like that. haha. I usually "slap"/pat her hand to get her attention, and I only do it once, and it never hurts. I feel I need to explain to the world. . . .
I'm not an abusive parent, I swear.
