Monday Memories: Remembering Martin Luther King

    It's hard to believe that Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated only 44 years ago. I did not live then and I know that racism still exists, but we are trying to reach our potential.  He helped us make those steps and it was through his words that many people's hearts were changed. It was fun to be in such a culturally diverse city to celebrate MLK day. We were able to go the the Crocker Art Museum and join in some of the festivities celebrating his life. 

   My favorite part of the day was hearing this choir sing. In person, it give me chills. We joked about how we wished our ward choir was this amazing. You can hear the passion behind their music. It is like the truest form of worship and I love feeling their love for The Savior.

   Martin Luther King Jr. spoke once about what he would like people to remember him for...

I'd like somebody to mention that day that Martin Luther King Jr. tried to give his life serving others. I'd like for somebody to say that day that Martin Luther King Jr. tried to love somebody.

I want you to say that day that I tried to be right on the war question. I want you to be able to say that day that I did try to feed the hungry. I want you to be able to say that day that I did try in my life to clothe those who were naked. I want you to say on that day that I did try in my life to visit those who were in prison. And I want you to say that I tried to love and serve humanity.

Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major. Say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.^[130]

I can't help, but wonder what I want people to remember about me and if I am living so that they will. 

I'd like them to remember how I raised my children...

I'd like them to remember how I served those around me...

I'd like them to remember how I much I like to smile...

I'd like them to remember how I strived to bring other to the gospel...

I have a lot of work to do.
